FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (May 4, 2024) - New York Red Bulls II (4-1-3 17 pts.) continued their perfect record on the road in a 2-1 victory against Inter Miami CF II (3-3-1 10 pts.) at Chase Stadium.

Coming off their first loss of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season, New York Red Bulls II were hoping to return to their winning ways against a strong Inter Miami CF II side.

As would be a theme throughout the match, New York dominated possession from the opening whistle. The road side maintained consistent pressure in the final third, but a counterattack from Miami in the 12th minute would open the match’s scoring.

After a turnover, Miami forward Bryan Destin received a cross from Jack Pymm and found the back of the net to give his side the lead on their first chance in the match. New York did not let the early deficit dictate their play, as the squad would level things up just seven minutes later.

In the 19th minute, Red Bulls II midfielder Mohammed Sofo capitalized on a Miami turnover and played a perfect ball to Ibrahim Kasule, who placed a clean finish past the Miami goalkeeper to equalize. The goal was the Ugandan’s third of the MLS NEXT Pro season and his fourth across all competitions in 2024. Kasule has now scored 19 goals for Red Bulls II across all competitions in his career, putting him into a tie with Tom Barlow for the fourth most in club history.

That wouldn’t be all for New York in the first half, as a new face would introduce himself to the scoresheet for the first time since joining the club last season. Defender Juan Gutierrez found himself on the end of a perfect free kick from the foot of Mohammed Sofo yet again, and the Colombian headed it home for his first professional goal.

New York went into the halftime break with the lead and would not look back.

Red Bulls II maintained their pressure with the ball in the second half thanks to an impressive defensive performance from the entire squad. Just about any threat from Miami was quickly dealt with by the back line. Aidan O’Connor, Juan Gutierrez, Dylan Sullivan, Omar Valencia, and Curtis Ofori stood strong to prevent Miami from finding their leveler.

After the final whistle, New York officially sealed their fifth consecutive result on the road to start the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season. The squad also continued their unbeaten streak against Miami, with New York improving their record to 3-0-1 against the club over the past two seasons.

Red Bulls II now sits at the top of the MLS NEXT Pro table with 17 points over eight matches.

New York Red Bulls II will stay on the road to face Orlando City B on Wednesday, May 8. Kickoff at Osceola Heritage Park is set for 7 p.m. ET with coverage on MLSNEXTPro.com, NewYorkRedBulls.com, and the New York Red Bulls app.
