HARRISON, N.J. (April 8, 2016) – New York Red Bulls II has signed defender Cheikh M’Baye following the approval of his P1 Visa, the club announced today.
M’Baye, a native of Saint-Louis, Senegal, signed after training with the first team and Red Bulls II as a trialist during preseason.
“Cheikh is a guy that brings size, athleticism and an ability to pass out of the back,” head coach John Wolyniec said. “He’s been with us for a good portion of preseason and with the first team for a while - he’s a young player that we see high potential in and that’s what Red Bulls II is about.”
The center back spent the 2015 season with FC Girondins de Bordeaux in France Ligue 1. M’Baye played seven reserve matches and did not make an appearance for the first team. The 20-year-old is a product of Diambars FC football academy in Saly, Senegal.
The Senegalese U-20 international becomes the tenth player signed to a USL contract on the Red Bulls II roster, and the club’s fifth signing of 2016.
