(April 29, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls have acquired veteran center back Aurelien Collin from Orlando City SC in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, the club announced today. The 30-year-old Collin brings a wealth of experience, including over 130 games played in MLS.
“We are excited to add Aurelien to our club,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Ali Curtis. “He is an excellent competitor and a veteran player that can strengthen our defense. We feel that his experience can also play an important role in helping us achieve our goals this season.”
Collin, a native of Enghien-les-Bains, France, was acquired by Orlando City ahead of its inaugural MLS campaign last season. Prior to joining the Lions, he spent a successful four years with Sporting Kansas City, where he won the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and 2013 MLS Cup. He was named MLS Cup MVP in 2013 after scoring the game-tying goal and putting away the final penalty as Kansas City won 7-6 on PKs after a 1-1 draw.
Collin has made 137 appearances and notched 13 goals in MLS regular season play, as well as 11 MLS Cup Playoff appearances, with four goals.
Prior to joining MLS in 2011, Collin played professionally in France, Greece, England, Scotland and Portugal.
