The New York Red Bulls academy finished the month of April strong, going 2-0-2 in four competitions last weekend. The Red Bulls U-12s were the lone age group not in action.

All four age groups hit the road to take on local rivals, New Jersey Cedar Stars Academy (NJCSA).

TINTON FALLS, N.J. (April 30, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls came away 5-0 winners on the road against local rivals NJCSA. All of the Red Bulls’ goals came in the second half with four in an 11-minute spell.

“After a slow first half, we managed to turn the game around and get three vital points away from home,” Man of the Match Callum Johnson said. “Obviously our finishing was great on the day with five goals, but more importantly our team effort was superb and all of our substitutes made an impact when called upon.”

The first came from Samad Bouthong in the 47th minute when he combined with Barry Sharifi at the top of the penalty box before running in to finish. The second came four minutes later through Brian Saramago, setup by Jared Gilbey.

Saramago scored again at the 55th minute mark, this time from the penalty spot. The fourth goal came barely a minute after the restart when Rodrigo D’Andrea crossed for Callum Johnson to score. The same two players combined in the 63rd minute to increase the lead to five when D’Andrea’s shot was saved, only to see Johnson follow up and finish from close range for his second of the game.

Matt Rosenberg secured his second consecutive shutout on the road and the team’s tenth clean sheet of the season.

The Red Bulls will return home game on Sunday, May 8, to take on Continental FC Delco at 12 p.m.

TINTON FALLS, N.J. (April 30, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls U-16s and NJCSA play to a draw on Saturday, 2-2.

The Red Bulls got off to a slow start falling behind NJCSA 2-0 after the first 10 minutes of the game, but New York turned things around and dominated the rest of the half.

The Red Bulls were rewarded with a penalty kick after Ben Mines was pulled down in the box. Chris Bermudez stepped up and scored the penalty to pull New York within one before halftime.

New York continued to dominate and eventually tied the game when a cross from Mines found a streaking Vince Borden who slotted it home. The Red Bulls pinned NJCSA in their own end, defending as they pressed for the winner, but they were left frustrated by their inability to finish.

The Red Bulls took the lead in the 13th minute when forward Leo Hecht made a great run down the left wing and beat a defender to the endline. His cross found midfielder Danny Ramm who ran onto the pass and blasted into the goal from 12-yards out.

NJCSA leveled the score in the 25th minute when they scored on a controversial penalty kick. Goalkeeper Liam Bertrand knocked the ball away from the feet of the NJCSA forward, however, the referee awarded a penalty kick, which NJCSA converted.

NJCSA took the lead against the run of play after a ball played over the top of the Red Bulls’ defense led to a breakaway that the attacker finished past Bertrand.

The Red Bulls were relentless in their pressure as they peppered the NJCSA goal with more than 10 shots in the second half, and found the equalizer in the last moments of the game. A handball in the box rewarded New York a penalty kick, which Taylor converted.

The Red Bulls came close to finding the match winner in the final moments, but were denied by the NJCSA goalkeeper after he saved two great efforts by New York.
