New York Red Bulls U-18 (2) vs. Continental FC Delco (2)
HANOVER, N.J. (May 8, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls came from behind to tie FC Delco, 2-2, in a windy Mother’s Day afternoon game at the Red Bulls Training Facility.
New York got off to a slow start in the first half and found themselves behind by two goals at the break.
The Red Bulls rallied in the second half. The break through came in the 75th minute when Brian Saramago was tripped by the FC Delco goalkeeper. Saramago quickly got to his feet to convert from the spot for 16th goal of the season.
The second goal came 10 minutes later when Saramago flicked on a Christian Martinez pass for Barry Sharifi to run through and score for his sixth goal of the campaign.
The Red Bulls would push for the winner in a thrilling end to the game and went close on a number of occasions.
Matt Thorshiem’s cross from left was flicked goal bound by Saramago, only to see the goalkeeper get his hand to it and the Delco defense scramble away the rebound. Rodrigo D’Andrea was next with a well-struck shot from distance that was tipped over the cross bar. The Red Bulls earned three corners in injury time, but could not find the elusive third goal.
“We had a poor first half that left ourselves in a hole,” Man of the Match Sean Teixeira said. “But we came out in the second half much sharper and were able to create many scoring opportunities that lead to us leveling the game. It was encouraging for the team to be able to overcome a slow start and get the result.”
