Match Recap: New York Red Bulls Down NYCFC, 2-0

TUCSON, Ariz (February 15, 2017) – The New York Red Bulls defeated New York City FC, 2-0 in a preseason match on Wednesday afternoon at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson. Sacha Kljestan scored both goals for the Red Bulls.


New York’s starting group played the entire match, with only two subs made. Bradley Wright-Phillips and Daniel Royer left the game in the 82nd minute, making way for Homegrowns Brandon Allen and Derrick Etienne Jr.


The Red Bulls opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. The play started with Wright-Phillips getting the ball just above the box and finding Gonzalo Veron, who turned into space and laid a pass across for Kljestan to finish from the penalty spot.


Kljestan added another in the 43rd minute, beating the goalkeeper after again being played in by Royer.
