HARRISON, N.J. (February 18, 2017) – The New York Red Bulls have added right back Michael Amir Murillo Bermudez on loan, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, the club announced today. Murillo joins New York on a year-long loan from San Francisco FC of Panama’s Liga Panameña de Fútbol.
“Michael is a player that we identified with our scouting network and have watched closely,” said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. “He fits the way we want to play and will be a good addition to our group.”
Murillo, 21, is a native of Panama City. He graduated from San Francisco’s youth academy to the first team in 2014. He has made 42 first team appearances and added three goals.
“I went down to see Michael play in person with our Head Scout Rob Elliot and we were impressed,” said Red Bulls first assistant Denis Hamlett. “After watching him play and speaking with him, we believe that Michael fits our club philosophy and we are glad to add him to our team for 2017.”
Murillo also has nine appearances and one goal for the Panama National Team. He made his senior team debut in March of 2016 in a friendly against Nicaragua. He also represented Panama in the 2017 Copa Centroamericana in January, when Panama made the tournament’s final.
He has three appearances in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League from the 2015/16 edition of the tournament.
