HARRISON, N.J. (March 7, 2017) – The New York Red Bulls have released goalkeepers Rafael Diaz and Evan Louro, the club announced today.
Diaz spent the last two seasons with New York Red Bulls II, the club’s USL affiliate. He finished 2016 with a save percentage of .905, the best in USL amongst players with a minimum of five appearances. The Rockaway, N.J., native has played 11 games in two seasons for a total of 819 minutes. Last year, the goalkeeper allowed just two goals in five appearances, completing three clean sheets.
Louro, a native of South River, N.J., finished his college career at Michigan with 46 appearances, 4,248 minutes played and a 1.17 Goals Against Average. He totaled 155 saves and 12 shutouts. As a sophomore, he recorded a career-best 1.05 Goals Allowed Average, which ranks No. 2 in single-season program history, and seven clean sheets. As a freshman, the goalkeeper recorded a team-high 28 saves and tied for most wins and shutouts. His breakout rookie season earned him a call-up to the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team Camp.
