Match Recap: NYRB II Falls in Close Battle with Birmingham Legion FC

MONTCLAIR, NJ (May 27, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (1-10-1, 4 points) fell to Birmingham Legion FC (4-4-4, 16 points), 2-1, on Friday, May 27 at MSU Soccer Park.

Birmingham struck first in the 12th minute, as Prosper Kasim slid in a low cross through to Enzo Martinez, who sent a shot into the New York net.

Red Bulls II responded in the 25th minute, as Jordan Adebayo-Smith collected a long pass, maneuvered around a defender, and ripped a shot with his left foot into the far corner of the net.

The visitors regained the lead in the 81st minute, as Marlon Santos converted a feed from Jonathan Dean.

The goal for Adebayo-Smith was his third of the season, moving him into sole possession for the team lead. It also marked the seventh of his USL Championship career.

Jeremy Rafanello appeared in his 50th USL Championship match. It was his 39th with New York to go along with nine for Indy Eleven and two for Philadelphia Union II.

Following the match, New York will face San Diego Loyal SC for the first time on Thursday, June 2, at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
