HARRISON, N.J. (March 25, 2024) – New York Red Bulls II midfielder Ibrahim Kasule has been named MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek for his two-goal performance against Inter Miami CF II on Sunday at MSU Soccer Park, the league announced today.
Kasule earned the award after a fantastic performance against Miami in which he recorded a brace for his side. His first was from the penalty spot, lengthening his perfect 7-for-7 record on such kicks since joining Red Bulls II last season. The Ugandan international recorded his second of the match after a scramble around the net led to him finding the loose ball and smashing it home to give New York a 3-1 lead.
In addition to his two goals, Kasule converted his shot in the shootout to help New York claim the second point in the standings after a 3-3 draw in regulation.
While the 20-year-old has yet to win a “Player of the Matchweek” award over the past two seasons, Kasule earned two “Player of the Month” awards in July and August of last year. He was also named to the MLS NEXT Pro Best XI at the end of the season recognizing the league’s top players in 2023.
Dating back to last season, Kasule has recorded five goals and three assists in his last five matches across all competitions. This was also the midfielder’s fourth multi-goal game across all competitions for New York over two seasons.
