The second month of the USL Championship season had four Red Bulls Academy players see action for Red Bulls II. Through the opening eight weeks of the season, New York has seven of the top 25 youngest players in the league. Out of those 25 players, Red Bulls II players account for 35 percent of the total appearances and 33 percent of the total starts and minutes. Look at how each did in the four matches in April:
Sam Williams – appeared in all four matches during April, started two and logged 161 minutes. He is the youngest player in the league to appear in eight matches through the first two months of the season.
JC Cortez – appeared in New York’s match against Rio Grande Valley FC on April 15 as a second half substitute. Cortez also earned a call up to Peru’s U-20 National Team and will travel for four matches with the team from May 2 to 12.
Illia Tyrkus – came on as a second half substitute at FC Tulsa on April 2, logging 18 minutes. He has appeared in three matches and logged 68 minutes so far this season.
Ezra Widman – logged 18 second half minutes against FC Tulsa along with Tyrkus on April 2, increasing his season total to 95 over three matches and one start.
New York also announced the additions of six more Red Bulls Academy players for the 2022 season. Goalkeepers James Cintron and Aidan Stokes, defender Davi Alexandre, and midfielders Edward Davis, Jeremiah White, and Erick Ruiz increased the total to 15 registered academy players on the roster.
Alexandre, White, and Nathan Worth all earned call ups to the United States U-15 National Team, with Worth wearing the captain’s armband in multiple matches.
