With top 2019 offensive contributors Jared Stroud and Tom Barlow earning promotions to the first team, Omar Sowe was given an opportunity for significant minutes in his second professional season.

Sowe played in 14 out of the 16 total matches despite the season being suspended and picking up a couple injuries. He totaled 749 minutes played and nine starts. After recording two goals in the previous year, he led the club with seven in 2020.

The Harrison, New Jersey native recorded his first goal of the season on July 22 at Philadelphia Union II, where he scored the final goal in a 5-1 victory. His second would be a very special moment for himself and the club.

Four days later, Sowe scored the equalizer in a crucial match against Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Red Bull Arena and the town that has been home for many years.

ā€œI look back on the season and that was one of my favorite moments. I have played in the Arena a couple times before that, but to score with that uniform on, it was just surreal,ā€ Sowe said.

That would not be the last special moment for Sowe during this campaign. On September 9, the 20-year-old forward recorded his first professional hat trick at MSU Soccer Park against Philadelphia Union II.

He recorded two more goals to finish 10th for goals scored in the USL Championship Eastern Conference. Sowe earned USL Championship Team of the Week twice in Week 12 and Week 14 respectively.

Sowe finished top three for the club in key passes, minutes per goal, shots on target, and right footed goals.

The former Red Bulls Academy product has now finished two seasons with the club and has a total of nine goals in 888 minutes of play, which is a goal every 98.6 minutes.
