Head of Sport Kevin Thelwell confirmed that assistant coach Bradley Carnell will remain with the Red Bulls during an end-of-season media availability on Wednesday afternoon.
“We were very pleased with Bradley during the interim period,” said Thelwell. “We thought he did very very well for us and we wanted to give him the opportunity to talk and speak to Gerhard [Struber] about the strategy and vision of this football club going forward, and I’m delighted to say that Bradley has committed his future to us, and long may that continue.”
Carnell joined the Red Bulls ahead of the 2017 season as an assistant coach and was named interim head coach in September. Carnell guided the team to a sixth-place finish in the MLS Eastern Conference with a 6-5-3 record. Carnell was the only interim head coach to guide his team into the postseason, extending the Red Bulls playoff run to 11-straight seasons.
“He’s a big part of the coaching staff going forward, we’re delighted to have him, and we’re delighted to see what he can achieve with Gerhard and Bernd [Eibler] as a part of that new coaching setup," Thelwell said.
