Get to know the matchup in By The Numbers, presented by New Jersey Lottery:

2 – New York and Cincinnati have been home to two of MLS’ best defenses all season. Only two goals separate the amount that Red Bulls (21) and the Orange and Blue (23) have given up, the third and fourth lowest totals in the league.

9 – The Red Bull offense has been on the rise as of recently. The club has recorded nine goals in its last four matches, the most in a four-match span this season.

45 – FC Cincinnati has accumulated 45 points through 21 games played to lead the Supporters’ Shield standings by seven points. Second-place St. Louis has recorded 38 points through the same number of games played.

8 – The Orange and Blue have played in tight road matches all season. Eight of the team’s 10 away contests have been decided by one or fewer goals. Most recently, the club played to a 2-2 draw with FC Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium last Saturday.

3 – Frankie Amaya has been on fire for the Red Bulls. The midfielder has netted three goals in three games, claiming the team-lead for goals scored. His ability to capitalize on offense will be important if New York wants to take down first-place Cincinnati.

3 – Three members of FC Cincinnati have been named to the 2023 MLS All-Star Team. Midfielder Luciano Acosta, and defenders Álvaro Barreal and Matt Miazga were all voted into this year’s roster, making their club the one with the most members of the team in the league. New York’s one all-star, defender John Tolkin, was named to the roster as a coaches selection.

2 – Wednesday is the second to last match before the MLS regular season takes a break for the first ever Leagues Cup. It is important that the Red Bulls, who are battling to insert themselves into a playoff spot, have two strong outings that result in points leading up to the break.
