New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill and defender David Carney completed their two-game tour with the Australian national team on Tuesday, helping the Socceroos split a pair of friendlies with France and Canada.
Both Cahill and Carney started for Australia in their opener against France on October 11 at the Parc des Princes in Paris. Carney was subbed off at halftime, while Cahill went 80 minutes at striker in the Socceroos' 6-0 loss. Cahill did not feature in the team’s second match on October 15 against Canada, but Carney went the full 90 as Australia took a 3-0 victory at Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage in London.
Both Carney and Cahill are expected to be available for the Red Bulls’ penultimate regular season game against the Houston Dynamo on October 20. Cahill is tied with striker Thierry Henry for most goals on the team with 10, including four game-winners and the late equalizer against the Revolution on October 5 that clinched New York a berth in the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs.
