Coaches of New York: Hakan Cenk

I was born and raised in Munich, Germany, in a working-class family of Turkish descent. From a young age, soccer captured my heart, sparking a dream of becoming a professional player. I dedicated my life to the sport, playing for SSV Ulm 1846 and later competing at the semi-professional level in Germany's Oberliga and Verbandsliga divisions. My commitment to soccer shaped my early years and taught me the values of discipline and perseverance.

At 29, after more than twenty years of playing experience, I made a significant life change by relocating to Miami, USA. I embraced a new culture and worked in real estate, but always stayed close to soccer. In 2016, I began my coaching career with high school and competitive youth soccer.

My mission was clear: To inspire and develop young players to seize their athletic potential while teaching the importance of hard work, competition, and commitment.

After 13 years in Miami, my wife and I decided to start on a new adventure in New York City. With experience and a passion for coaching, I aimed to challenge myself further. My first step was to apply for a coaching position with the New York Red Bulls, a club I had admired since my days in Germany. Upon being hired, I quickly understood the opportunities for professional growth within the organization.

Now, with nearly two years working with the New York Red Bulls, I hold the UEFA B Coaching License and continue to pursue educational opportunities to improve my coaching skills. The world is small compared to the opportunities we encounter on our journeys. I aim to leave a lasting impact on my players and teams, guiding them not just in soccer but in life. My journey from Munich to Miami and now New York City shows my belief in the power of sports to transcend boundaries and transform lives.
