David Jensen completed his first training session with the club on Thursday morning. He received a great welcome from his new teammates and coaching staff.
“I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time,” said Jensen. “Now, I’m here with the boys, and you know just to say hello to them and just have a little chat, also with the coach. It was a nice little session today. I didn’t touch a ball for almost a week, so it was nice to get out there and catch some balls. It went well, so that was good.”
The Danish goalkeeper looks forward to interacting with a diverse group of players, who come from different countries and backgrounds.
“I think it’s great to get this togetherness in the team, and you know it doesn’t mean that we only have to have Americans,” said the 27-year-old goalkeeper. “I think it’s healthy to have a little mixture. I think it’s healthy for a team, that’s my experience from other clubs. It was the same in Holland. It wasn’t always, you know, it needs to only be Dutch players, a little mix is always healthy because it can help get results.”
When detailing what type of goalkeeper he is, Jensen described himself as “offensive” because he likes to take initiative when starting the plays from the back.
“Offensive,” he said. “I like to have the ball in my hands and set the game fast and pick players out with my side body or that can be in the defense; we can use it as a weapon. We did that in my previous club, so that's definitely something I have to talk to them about how we can set the game from the back. I'm a guy that likes to be in the present and show to my defense that they can count on me. Just show some charisma, that's just a part of my nature.”
As the team prepares to participate in the 2020 Visit Tucson Sun Cup, Jensen believes that the goal is to create a good feeling in the team to start the season on a high note.
“Talking about the season, it’s just to take one day at a time, one game at a time,” he said. “I can feel we have a good group; it has a good vibe. And, the quality is there. I’m pretty positive, pretty calm about us getting a good start. That’s the goal for this camp, to get a good vibe, to get it going, and just have a good feeling.”
