Dax McCarty Sets All-Time Minutes Record for RBNY

Dax McCarty New York 072416

New York Red Bulls captain Dax McCarty is now the Red Bulls’ all-time minutes leader, passing Mike Petke in last Saturday’s game against Montreal. McCarty now has 14,111 minutes  with New York in MLS regular season play, compared to Petke’s 14,060.

Previously this season, McCarty also passed Petke in Red Bulls’ games started. McCarty now has 160 regular season MLS starts for the Red Bulls, surpassing Petke’s 158.

Next up for McCarty is Petke’s record of 169 MLS regular season appearances with the Red Bulls. McCarty is currently at 166, good for second in club history. With three regular season games left this season, McCarty can tie the record.

Dax started his MLS career with FC Dallas in 2006. He played for FC Dallas until 2010, appearing in 93 games and scoring five goals with 17 assists. In the 2010 offseason, he was drafted by the Portland Timbers as part of the Expansion Draft. Before playing a game, he was traded during the 2011 SuperDraft to D.C. United.

McCarty was quickly named team captain of United, and played 13 games for them before a blockbuster trade to the Red Bulls. Since that trade, McCarty has found a home here in New York. He was named the team captain in 2015, and has been one of the most consistent players on the team.
