New York Red Bulls eMLS player George Adamou battled all the way into the eMLS League Series One Grand Final on Friday night in Philadelphia.
Adamou won two matches in the knockout bracket to face off against FC Cincinnati's Fiddle in the Grand Final in FIFA 20.
New York's guy on the sticks beat the reigning champion, Doolsta (now representing Nashville SC), and New York City FC's Didychrislito, to make it into the Grand Final.
Fiddle topped Adamou 3-1 in the Grand Final to claim the League Series One trophy.
The first match of the night saw Adamou get off to a quick start against Doolsta, scoring early. He added his second right after halftime, and held on for a 2-1 victory.
In the virtual New York Derby, both sides were holding onto clean sheets before Adamou broke the ice with a screamer in the 41st minute to go up 1-0. He held on to post the clean sheet for the 1-0 victory, establishing that even in eSports, New York is red.
Cincy's Fiddle, who advanced into the Grand Final with two penalty kick victories, went up 2-0 early before Adamou battled back to get the game to 2-1. A late goal sealed the victory for Fiddle.
Adamou, 20, is currently the highest-ranked American player, ranked 16th overall in the World in the latest FIFA 20 Global Series rankings on PlayStation. Only two other Americans, and three other eMLS competitors, are ranked in the current top 50.
Adamou posted a 8-2-2 record with a +17 goal differential during qualifiers and was ranked No. 4 in the knockout stage.
Adamou is a Business Management major at Adelphi University. He played soccer growing up in Queens, serving as a captain for Benjamin N Cardozo High School’s team and also playing club soccer for Bayside AV juniors. He committed to play at Adelphi University before injury, which ultimately led to him shifting focus to playing FIFA at a high level.
