“I’m a warrior.”

That’s the kind of player Fidel Escobar said he is at the New York Red Bulls Training Facility after signing his paperwork with the team.

“I like to show what I have inside,” Escobar said through a translator. “My main thing is the discipline and effort that I have all the time. I’m going to give it all for this institution.”

Escobar, 22, joins New York on a year-and-a-half loan from Sporting San Miguelito FC.

“We are excited," Jesse Marsch said after training on Thursday. "We have been tracking him for awhile. During the Gold Cup, we were able to spend a little bit more time to get to know him and then I think it became clear that it was going to be a good fit. He has to acclimate to our environment, learn English and to being in the U.S.

"We think he is a very talented young center back that plays the way we like to play and has a high potential to fit in our system," the head coach said.

He recently played with the Panamanian National Team in the 2017 Gold Cup, alongside current Red Bulls defender Michael Amir Murillo.

“I’ve come give it my all, but first to God, and to become a champion,” Escobar said. “I leave it all for this team – it’s a great club here in the U.S. -- and to help motivate my teammates to give it all for this club.”

Escobar said that he hopes to show his coaches, teammates and fans what he’s capable of with the Red Bulls.

“I came to this team for a reason,” he said. “They chose me and I will give it my all.”
