Finishing Is The Focus For Forwards

Fredrik Gulbrandsen

The New York Red Bulls forwards are focused on finishing, according to Head Coach Jesse Marsch.

“We’ve talked about savviness, we’ve talked about sharpness and we’ve talked about aggressiveness with the ball and without the ball,” he said. “We’ve been a little bit stagnant where guys are waiting for things to happen. I’m adamant in making sure that we have the right ideas and the right commitment in the box.”

Two-time Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips said the team is not firing on all cylinders in the final third and they know it.

“We’ve got to find different ways in our games to be better,” BWP said.

Fredrik Gulbrandsen, who participated fully in training on Tuesday, said that sometimes teams need to click before the goals start coming.

“The goals… they will come,” he said. “When they come, they will come for many guys.”

Marsch said that the Red Bulls have to start getting the first goal of the game and holding onto their leads.

“This team scores goals. I know we’ll score goals again,” Marsch said. “It’ll come around."
