The New York Red Bullsā€™ newest Young Designated Player, Alejandro ā€œKakuā€ Romero Gamarra, has been acquired via transfer from Club Atletico Huracan (ARG) on February 16, 2018.

Gamarra, nicknamed ā€œKakuā€, 23, hails from Ciudadela, Argentina and has been a part of CA Huracanā€™s youth system since 2013. Gamarra will become the franchiseā€™s youngest DP since the rule was enacted in 2007.

He helped CA Huracan gain promotion to the top division of Argentinian futbol (Primera Division) in 2014 after winning a one-game playoff against Atletico Tucuman.

In addition to 72 first division appearances for the club, Gamarra has featured in 17 Copa Libertadores (South Americaā€™s most prestigious tournament) games, six Copa Sudamericana (South Americaā€™s second-most prestigious competition) contests and won the 2014 edition of the Copa Argentina (US Open Cup equivalent to Argentina).

Playing as a winger during his time with Huracan, Gamarra notched eight goals and 13 assists in all competitions.

He also appeared five times for the Argentina U-20 National Team, including three appearances at the 2015 U-20 World Cup.
