El Salvador 2, Trinidad & Tobago 2
Philadelphia Union midfielder Keon Daniel got his 15th international goal, but it wasn't enough to get all three points in the Group B opener at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.
Daniel began the day's festivities in the 11th minute, slotting home after racing past El Salvador and Chivas USA defender Steve Purdy. Daniel, who earned his 58th cap, started as an attacking midfielder behind forward Kenwyn Jones, who got the second T&T goal in in the 73rd minute to bracket a pair of strikes by La Selecta's Rodolfo Zelaya.
Vancouver Whitecaps defender Carlyle Mitchell was the third MLSer in action, going all 90 minutes for T&T in the center of defense.
Haiti 0, Honduras 2
Honduras got one early and one late, and it proved to be enough to take all three points over a game but misfiring Haiti squad at Red Bull Arena in the Group B nightcap.
Erstwhile Seattle Sounder Mario Martínez got things rolling, assisting a somewhat controversial goal just four minutes in as teammate Rony Martínez converted a quick break after the Haitian midfield had been dispossesed. With one Haitian on the ground and several others looking for a call, the Catrachos struck quickly, Rony Martínez eventually running onto a Mario Martínez slip pass and lashing home right-footed.
San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Marvin Chávez got the second goal 12 minutes from time, finishing off a neat passing sequence by firing a swerving left-footed shot past the Haitian 'keeper.
Mario Martínez started and went 69 minutes for Honduras, while Chávez came off the bench for the final 37 minutes. The Sporting KC duo of Mechack Jerome and Peterson Joseph both started for Haiti. Jerome went the full 90, while Joseph was subbed off in the 56th minute.
