Daniel Royer partially trained with the team on Tuesday as he works back from a hyperextended knee and bone bruising.
Royer suffered the injury on August 6 against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium.
"Danny is making great progress," Head Coach Jesse Marsch said on Tuesday. "We’re trying to be aggressive with him, because obviously we have big games coming up, one after the other. Hopefully, by the end of the week, he’s in training and then we can think about how we can factor him in for the upcoming games."
Royer, who is second on the Red Bulls in goals this season with 10, also did individual ball work during training.
"I think there’s a possibility," Marsch said of if Royer could factor into the 18-man gameday roster against Chicago Fire. "We’ll see. We don’t want to risk further injury, but he’s an important guy and we need to get him going. We need to get him fit and ready to go."
