INSIDE THE 18: Brian White Back in the Starting XI for New York

Chris Armas

Forward Brian White is in the Starting XI for the New York Red Bulls as they take on the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday night at Subaru Park.

White makes his third start of the season, rejoining the starting lineup for the first time since March 7.

Head Coach Chris Armas has White joined by Jared Stroud, Marc Rzatkowski and Danny Royer in the attack. Captain Sean Davis and Cristian Casseres Jr. anchor the defensive midfield.

Stroud is making his second-straight start and fifth MLS appearance.

The backline of Kyle Duncan, Tim Parker, Aaron Long and Jason Pendant returns for the second match in a row. Ryan Meara again gets the nod at goalkeeper.

“For me, I saw a big commitment level from [Long and Parker] to how we want to play, and then a pride factor that was individual and collective like ‘I’m going to carry my weight on the day, therefore we are going for the shutout,‘” Armas said. “They talked about a shutout. They talked about really being tight back there, so I saw a really hungry tandem back there, hungry to prove something.”

Duncan leads the team in goals in 2020, with two.

Armas will have a deep and full bench, as the gameday roster is increased to 20 players with five possible subs (made during three stoppages in play). On the bench for New York: Tom Barlow, Mandela Egbo, Omir Fernandez, Kaku, Mathias Jørgensen, Patrick Seagrist, Amro Tarek, Florian Valot and David Jensen.

Egbo made his MLS debut in the Red Bulls’ 1-0 victory over New York City FC on Thursday night.

Kickoff at Subaru Park is set for 7:30 p.m. with coverage on MSG, MSG Go and New York Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.
