The New York Red Bulls and New York City FC face off at Red Bull Arena in a match with extreme playoff implications and bragging rights on the line.
Emil Forsberg returns to the roster, available off the bench, for the first time since June 29.
Taking the field for RBNY, Daniel Edelman -- from Warren, New Jersey -- captains the side. He’ll be paired with Felipe Carballo in the central midfield, with Cameron Harper and Dennis Gjengaar pushing the attack.
This will be the 25th overall regular season meeting between New York and NYCFC, with the Red Bulls holding the advantage in the series with an 11-9-4 mark.
Dante Vanzeir and Lewis Morgan get the nod to start from Head Coach Sandro Schwarz.
In meetings at Red Bull Arena, New York has posted an 8-2-2 mark during the regular season and a 4-0-0 mark in other competitions, which includes Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Leagues Cup.
Carlos Coronel starts in goal for New York, with John Tolkin, Andrés Reyes, Noah Eile and Dylan Nealis along the backline.
Coronel has made 10 career appearances across all competitions against New York City FC, and he has posted six shutouts in those matches. His four MLS clean sheets against NYCFC are tied for the most he has against a single MLS club – he also has four against Nashville SC and Toronto FC. Coronel has made 124 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls and is one appearance shy from tying Tony Meola for second place in franchise history for games played by a goalkeeper.
In their last five matches against NYCFC at Red Bull Arena, the Red Bulls have posted a 4-1-0 mark.
Forsberg is joined on the bench by Cory Burke, Ronald Donkor, Julian Hall, Elias Manoel, Serge Ngoma, Aidan O’Connor, Peter Stroud and Ryan Meara.
Sean Nealis, Wiki Carmona, Kyle Duncan and Roald Mitchell are sidelined.
