Alejandro “Kaku” Romero Gamarra played his entire career at Club Atlético Huracán before signing with the New York Red Bulls as the team’s young Designated Player.
He comes with a winning pedigree, as while at Huracan, Kaku was on the club that won Copa Argentina in 2013/2014 and Supercopa Argentina in 2014.
Kaku said he can’t wait to start dishing the ball to Bradley Wright-Phillips, as he’s been watching videos of the Red Bull striker online.
“I want to play as many games as possible, score many goals, assist Wright-Phillips, be a great team and make things difficult for all other MLS teams,” Kaku said through a translator.
He’s excited to play the high-press, “because it strangles the opponent.”
“We are going to make it complicated for all the other MLS teams,” Kaku said.
He also said he knows the importance of beating rivals, especially any time a New York Derby is played.
“You have to win all the ‘Clasicos,’” Kaku said. “Every time we face them we have to beat them. Jesse told me that we had once beaten them 7-0. Hopefully, we keep that up.”
Now that he’s a member of the New York Red Bulls, he said he can’t wait to bring an MLS Cup to the supporters.
“I am going to do everything for the team to try to be champions,” Kaku said. “We can all celebrate at the end of the season.”
