HARRISON, N.J. (April 13, 2015) – Red Bulls winger Lloyd Sam has been named to the MLS Team of the Week following his 90th minute heroics in the Red Bulls 2-2 tie with D.C. United on Saturday. Sam’s goal just before stoppage time helped the team earn a road point at RFK, keeping New York undefeated through four games to start the year.
With the Red Bulls trailing 2-1 in the 89th minute, Sacha Kljestan stepped up to a free kick from 25 yards out and put a dipping shot on D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid. Hamid was unable to handle the shot, and Sam raced in to bury the rebound, his team-leading third goal of the year.
The Englishman’s red-hot start has paced the Red Bulls to a 2-0-2 record, including five points in three tough road games. New York now returns home for three straight at Red Bull Arena, beginning with a Friday night clash against San Jose on April 17th. That contest, which is also Autism Awareness Night, is set to kick off at 7 p.m. on UniMas. Fans tuning into UniMas can use the SAP feature to watch the game with an English language broadcast.
