HARRISON, N.J. (March 5, 2020) – Following a 3-2 season-opening win at Red Bull Arena, the New York Red Bulls (1-0-0, 3pts) will travel for eight of their next 11 matches, beginning with Real Salt Lake (0-0-1, 1pt) at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday. New York and Real Salt Lake clash for the 23rd time in MLS regular-season play. RSL owns a slight edge in the all-time series, 7-6-9, while both teams have held serve at their respective home stadiums. The Red Bulls aim for their first win in Utah, as New York has failed to earn a win in the last 11 tries in Utah and has only picked up a point in two of the last eight matches since RSL moved to Rio Tinto. Since RSL moved from the University of Utah's football stadium, Rice-Eccles Stadium, to their soccer-specific stadium Rio Tinto, New York has struggled at Rio Tinto as much as New England's Gillette Stadium once gave it headaches. In eight matches, the Red Bulls are 0-6-2 and have been outscored, 13-3.
Kyle Duncan’s 16th minute goal on Sunday was the first goal of the game and gave New York a 1-0 lead over FC Cincinnati. Since the Red Bulls implemented their high-press system in 2015, New York improved to 70-12-16 when scoring the first goal of the match. Duncan, who had one goal and two assists in 1,080 minutes last season, tallied one goal and two assists in 90 minutes. Florian Valot tallied two assists in his first game back since March 16, 2019 to raise his career total to eight. It was Valot’s first two-assist performance.
New York will continue their three-match road trip with a nationally televised game against Minnesota United at Allianz Field on Sunday, March 15. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
