HARRISON, N.J. (May 26, 2016) - The New York Red Bulls return home on Saturday to host Toronto FC at 7 p.m. New York will look to extend its winning streak to three games in a rematch of the 2016 season opener.
The Red Bulls improved to 5-7-1 with a pair of wins last week, a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire and a 7-0 win over New York City FC at Yankee Stadium. The Red Bulls sit in third place in the East entering the weekend, tied with Toronto on points.
MSG and MSG GO will provide coverage of the match, beginning with Red Bulls Game Night at 6:30 p.m. Red Bulls Radio gets underway with Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon, at 6 p.m. Harmon will call the action in English with former Red Bull and MetroStar Steve Jolley, while Ernesto Motta calls the game in Spanish beginning at 7 p.m.
The seven goals scored last weekend set a new franchise record for goals in a single match, and the 7-0 score line matched the MLS record for largest margin of victory. New York entered the day with a -6 goal differential and left Yankee Stadium with a +1 margin and the most goals scored in the Eastern Conference (21).
Dax McCarty got the game-winner in just the third minute, and added another early in the second half for the first multi-goal game of his MLS career. Sacha Kljestan provided corner kick service for both of McCarty's goals, giving him a league-leading eight assists this season. Bradley Wright-Phillips also netted a brace, scoring in the 42nd minute and again in first-half stoppage time to give New York a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Wright-Phillips now has five goals this season, all in the last six games, and 50 for his New York career. The Englishman capped off his day at Yankee Stadium with an assist on the first career goal for Homegrown Player and New York City native Alex Muyl. Wright-Phillips was named MLS Player of the Week for his efforts in the 7-0 win over NYCFC.
Muyl, Gideon Baah and Gonzalo Veron all scored for New York, marking the first time in MLS history that all three subs scored in a match.
Luis Robles got his second consecutive shutout while breaking another MLS record, starting his 119th consecutive regular season game. Chris Klein was the previous record holder with 118 consecutive games started.
Toronto enters at 4-4-4 after a pair of draws last week against New York City FC and Columbus Crew SC. TFC holds a 3-3-2 road record after playing the first eight games of 2016 on the road, including a 2-0 victory at Red Bull Arena on opening day.
2015 MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco leads TFC with eight goals and five assists on the season.
New York is 12-7-5 all-time against Toronto, including a 9-2-1 record at home.
After Saturday, the Red Bulls and MLS break while the Copa America Centenario gets underway across the United States. The Red Bulls return to action with a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match on June 15 (date and opponent TBD) and return to MLS action with a home match against Seattle on Sunday, June 19.
