This will be the 17th overall regular season meeting between New York and Atlanta, with the Red Bulls holding the series advantage with a 9-2-5 mark. The Red Bulls have posted a 4-2-2 mark in Atlanta in franchise history, including a 2-2-1 mark in their last five matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. New York is coming off a 2-0 win in their 2025 Home Opener against Nashville SC, where midfielder Mohammed Sofo scored his first career MLS goal in his first career MLS start. Atlanta United FC lost their second match of the season against Charlotte FC, 2-0.
New York Captain Emil Forsberg scored his first goal of the season in New York’s home opener and the 10th of his MLS career. Forsberg has recorded six goal contributions in his last five MLS regular season matches, including an assist in the Red Bulls’ last match against Atlanta. Forsberg was named to MLS Team of the Matchday for Week 2 after his performance against Nashville SC.
Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel recorded his 49th career MLS victory with the Red Bulls in their last match and now ranks second place in franchise history in goalkeeper wins. Coronel has recorded three career shutouts against Atlanta United FC and now has 36 career MLS shutouts. The goalkeeper is set to make his 150th career appearance across all competitions for New York and will become the second goalkeeper in franchise history to accomplish the feat.
