The New York Red Bulls (10-6-14, 44 pts.) battle rivals New York City FC (11-11-8, 41 pts.) in the second New York Derby of the season on Saturday, September 28 at Red Bull Arena. This will be the 25th overall regular season meeting between New York and NYCFC, with the Red Bulls holding the advantage in the series with an 11-9-4 mark. In meetings at Red Bull Arena, New York has posted an 8-2-2 mark during the regular season and a 4-0-0 mark in other competitions, which includes Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Leagues Cup. In their last five matches against NYCFC at Red Bull Arena, the Red Bulls have posted a 4-1-0 mark. New York have posted a 7-1-7 mark at home this season, while NYCFC have posted a 3-7-5 mark on the road.

New York goalkeeper Carlos Coronel has made 10 career appearances across all competitions against New York City FC, and he has posted six shutouts in those matches. His four MLS clean sheets against NYCFC are tied for the most he has against a single MLS club – he also has four against Nashville SC and Toronto FC. Coronel has made 124 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls and is one appearance shy from tying Tony Meola for second place in franchise history for games played by a goalkeeper.
