New York is having one of their best starts in franchise history as they recorded their fifth win across all competitions (5-1-1) and second win in MLS play before the month of March has ended. The Red Bulls’ five wins through the first seven games of the season are the most wins in franchise history since 2010 and tied for the second most in club history. New York has been very good on both sides of the ball, scoring 15 goals and allowing just three goals with four shutouts. The Red Bulls 15 goals scored are the third highest in club history through the first seven games and their four clean sheets are tied for the second most in franchise history through seven matches.
Bradley Wright-Phillips has been nothing less than spectacular to begin the 2018 season, tallying six goals and four assists across all competitions. Wright-Phillips bagged his second brace of the season against Minnesota United to raise his career brace total across all competitions to 18. The Red Bulls striker has tallied 19 career multi-goal performances during MLS regular-season play to place him in sole possession of fifth all-time in league history.
On the defensive side, New York has allowed just three goals through 630 minutes of competitive play in 2018. Of the Red Bulls three goals allowed, New York has just allowed one goal during the run of play. In MLS play, the Red Bulls backline has held their opposition to just eight shots on goal.
New York will be facing a familiar face, going up against their old number 10 and captain, Sacha Kljestan. Kljestan had a successful three seasons as a Red Bull, leading the league twice in assists and guiding New York to a Supporters’ Shield trophy in 2015.
