Harrison, N.J. (March 10, 2019) – Down two goals, the New York Red Bulls will look to avoid elimination against Santos Laguna in Leg 2 of the Scotiabank Champions League Quarterfinals on Tuesday at Estadio Corona. Kickoff is slated for 9 p.m. ET with coverage on Univision Deportes, YahooSports.com and New York Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.

With a two-goal disadvantage heading into Tuesday, New York will look to replicate their success in Mexico from last season. In 2018, Bradley Wright-Phillips recorded a brace and Luis Robles tallied 13 saves at Club Tijuana in the SCCL Quarterfinals. Wright-Phillips, who has zero goals on 10 shots and six shots on goal in three matches, had only one drought of five games without goal, while scoring at least one goal within three games during 42 matches played last season.
New York was held scoreless at Red Bull Arena for the first time since May 26, 2018, spanning 15 matches across all competitions, dating back to last season. Despite the shutout, the Red Bulls held advantages over Santos in shots, 14-10, shots on goal, 6-4 and corner kicks, 7-0. The last time New York was blanked at Red Bull Arena by a Mexican squad (Chivas, 0-0; 4/10/18), the Red Bulls bounced back four days later with 3-1 win against the Montreal Impact.
The Red Bulls, who returned 96 percent of its offensive production from last season, bounced back from a loss with a positive result every time in 2018. In 44 matches last season, New York only lost back-to-back matches once across all competitions. The Red Bulls were 7-1-3 after a loss and had six three-goal performances following a loss. The Red Bulls were behind 0-1 after Leg 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals and came back with a 3-0 victory at Red Bull Arena in Leg 2 to advance.
Following Tuesday’s match against Santos Laguna in SCCL, New York will open their 2019 home slate against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET with coverage on Univision and New York Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.
