HARRISON, NJ (May 29, 2014) – This Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena, the U.S. Men’s National Team will face off against Turkey as part of their three-game “send-off series” in preparation for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Kickoff from Harrison is set for 2 p.m. There are very limited tickets still available.
Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann recently named his 23-man World Cup squad and the team turned in a 2-0 victory over Azerbaijan on May 27 in San Francisco. The visitors proved feisty and tough to break down, leading to a scoreless opening 75 minutes, until substitute Mix Diskerud broke through with a volleyed opener four minutes after coming on.

Diskerud kept play alive by contesting a header off of a free kick from Brad Davis. The ball fell to Michael Bradley whose attempt was cleared off the line and into the path of the Norwegian-American. Diskerud’s game-winning goal was his first of the year and the third of his international career. Six minutes later another substitute, Aron Johannsson, found himself unmarked on a corner kick and his header brought the final scoreline to 2-0 in favor of the hosts.
This Sunday’s match will be the first U.S. national game played at Red Bull Arena since Ecuador visited Harrison on October 11, 2011. Goalkeeper Tim Howard will make his 99th national team appearance against Turkey and, with a victory, will break Kasey Keller’s record for 53 career victories. With a win, Jurgen Klinsmann will tie Bora Mulutinovic for third all-time with 30 career victories.
Turkey are led by recent Champions League silver medal winner and Atlético Madrid midfielder Arda Turan as well as Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Şahin.
The match will be aired live nationally on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, and Univision.
