MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: Red Bulls Fall in New England

Match Recap vs. NER

The New England Revolution were awarded a penalty in the final moments of stoppage time, converting to win the match 2-1 over the New York Red Bulls.

Carles Gil convereted the penalty and also scored a free kick goal in the first half for New England's goal.

"We deserved today to lose this game because when you are playing the first half like we did then without energy, without the concentration, without clearing balls, without deep runs then it is not possible to control the game, then it is not possible to create a lot of situations," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said after the match.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored for New York, receiving a slick pass in from Peter Stroud and putting the ball in the back of the net.

Choupo-Moting scored his second MLS goal of the season and has now recorded a goal contribution in three-straight matches.

"We did not play clean, we did not defend very well in all our situations which we need and then at the end, you will get this result, how we got it today," Schwarz said.

Stroud tallied his second MLS assist of the season and his third of his MLS career.

"We put ourselves in situations we don't need to be in," Emil Forsberg said. "We're so much better than that. Throughout the season, we've been playing good. We've been dominant, but sometimes it turns to sloppiness. We need to be more dominant and consequent with the ball when having it, making better decisions when having it, without it as well. I think we give away too much for free in games that's totally unnecessary."

Dylan Nealis made his 100th career appearance across all competitions for New York in tonight’s match.

Sean Nealis moved into second place in franchise history for most MLS minutes played by a defender passing Aaron Long with 11,780.

Carlos Coronel made his 133rd career start for New York, moving him tied for sixth place in franchise history for most MLS starts by a Red Bulls player with Dane Richards and Aaron Long.

"I had the feeling we were a little bit sloppy in everything we did," Forsberg said. "Coming here, we knew what we were facing, we spoke a lot about mentality and the intensity before the game, but we gave away stupid free kicks, stupid fouls, just because we were sloppy. It didn't feel like us today."

New York returns to Sports Illustrated Stadium to battle Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, April 5 for Autism Acceptance. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
