Noah Eile's first MLS goal led the New York Red Bulls to a 1-0 victory over CF Montréal on Saturday afternoon at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
New York game-winning goal came in the 67th minute, with Omar Valencia whipping in a corner kick far post to Eile, who headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.
"It felt great," Eile said. "Obviously, the game being a tie as well, it was felt even better. I lost a little focus there a few minutes after so that I had to refocus again, because it was still a lot of fun to me."
Valencia tallied his third assist of the season and is tied for the second-most assists in the league by a defender.
"Now, we must collect points, points, points in our situation with some injured players are coming back and that's it," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said.
Carlos Coronel recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season, which ranks tied for second-most in the league. Coronel made five saves on the day, which is tied for the second-most saves in a single game this season for the Paraguayan international.
The goalkeeper has the third-most total saves this season in the league with 36.
Kyle Duncan made his first start and appearance for New York since August 31, 2024, going the full 90 minutes.
"You always want to be a little careful coming back after seven months," Duncan said. "Felt like I had the energy to go. I was on the field. I looked at him, said 'Coach, let me run it,' you know. So, he let me play the 90 minutes and I’m glad we got the win."
Tim Parker subbed on in the 83rd minute to make his 100th appearance for the club.
Sean Nealis made his 143rd career MLS appearance, which moves him into sole possession of eighth place in franchise history for most MLS appearances by a Red Bulls player. Nealis also made his 166th career appearance across all competitions for New York, moving him into a tie with Carlos Mendes for third place in franchise history for most appearances by a defender.
"I'm pretty sure that every coach in this world want to have this consistently every Saturday, every Sunday, to see in the highest quality of performance, and that's a topic for sure," Schwarz said. "That is what we want to improve, what we must improve, and why we are working so hard every day, but -- and the expectation ... is now higher, that's clear."
New York will travel to Chase Stadium for a road match against Inter Miami CF, on Saturday, May 3. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
"We were very successful last year -- and last season, we had after ten games, do you know how many points we had last season after ten games? Now, I give the question," Schwarz said. "We had 17 points. We had 17 points. But the feeling was a little bit different, like we have now. Now, it's 15 points, two points less than last season. But it's clear, consistently is the main part, and we are working for that."
