HARRISON, N.J. (September 11, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls played to a 2-2 draw with D.C. United on Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena. Gonzalo Veron and Bradley Wright-Phillips scored for New York, but D.C. found an equalizer in stoppage time.

With the draw, New York extends the franchise-record unbeaten streak to 11 games in MLS. New York is now 12-9-8 on the season and sits tied on points with New York City FC for second place in the Eastern Conference. The Red Bulls are ahead of NYC FC on the second tiebreaker, goal differential.

Veron opened the scoring in the 35th minute, getting in front of goal and heading in a loose ball after a short pass from Sacha Kljestan deflected off of D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid. The goal was Veron’s third of the season.

Wright-Phillips doubled the advantage on the other side of half time, getting the ball in stride from Danny Royer and blasting a shot by Hamid for his league-leading 18th of the season.

Wright-Phillips leads MLS and set a new record for most goals scored over a three-year span, with his 62nd. He surpassed the previous record holder, Chris Wondolowski, who scored 61 for San Jose between 2010 and 2012. BWP scored 17 last season, and tied the MLS single-season record (also shared with Wondolowski) with 27 goals in 2014.

D.C. pulled one back in the 89th minute before getting the late equalizer from Lamar Neagle, who replaced former Red Bull Lloyd Sam in the 60th minute.

Royer’s first MLS assist came in his first MLS start. Homegrown midfielder Derrick Etienne Jr. made his MLS debut in the 86th minute, replacing Royer.

New York hosts Alianza on Thursday night in CONCACAF Champions League action before traveling to Toronto for a match on Sunday, September 18.

The Red Bulls then return home for three straight, beginning with a match against the Montreal Impact on Saturday, September 24.
