MATCH RECAP: Red Bulls Draw, Fall in Penalties as Leagues Cup Comes to an End

The New York Red Bulls played C.F. Pachuca to a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday night.

Pachuca earned the additional point, winning the penalty kick shootout. With two points through two matches of group play, the Red Bulls Leagues Cup run has ended.

The Red Bulls opened up the scoring in the 47th minute, when midfielder Lewis Morgan played the ball to the feet of forward Elias Manoel in Pachuca’s box and Manoel turned and fired his shot off the bottom of the crossbar into the net.

Pachuca equalized later in the second half.

Both teams had a chance to win it late, with Carlos Coronel and the Pachuca goalkeeper coming up with big saves in the dying moments of the match.

Pachuca earned the second point available by winning the shootout.

New York extended their home unbeaten streak across all competitions to 17 matches, which is the longest home unbeaten streak across all competitions in franchise history

New York returns to MLS action on Saturday, August 24 against Charlotte FC. The next Red Bulls match at Red Bull Arena will see Philadelphia Union on August 31.
