This month’s Homegrown Hero is Martin Espinoza, Chief Warrant Officer in USCG. We caught up with him to know his story about his career and how his working routine has changed since the pandemic started. We thank Martin for all his efforts and for inspiring our club with his acts.
Tell me about your career and what inspires you every day?Â
I am a Chief Warrant Officer in USCG, my specialty is FINANCE and SUPPLY, I have served in 4 different CG cutters, on my last one, CGC JAMES out of Charleston SC, we performed the National Security mission, counter narcotic operations in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean. I was Department Head of the Support Department. The sense of helping others and giving them the tools to succeed in their careers is the biggest motivator for me.
How much have your job duties changed since the pandemic started?Â
Our approach to continue operations through the pandemic was resilient. We implemented safety precautions and procedures that ensured our crew was safe while performing our mission. We completed two successful patrols during COVID-19.
What’s the biggest lesson/s you’ve learned during this time period?
Teamwork is vital for mission success; your team efforts/collaborations are essential to defeat chaos and uncertainty.
