Jesse Marsch knows his team has a strong core of players in Bradley Wright-Phillips, Sacha Kljestan, Luis Robles and others.
On Wright-Phillips and Kljestan:
"I think that when I look at the seasons that those two guys had, certainly at the quality that they have as players, the way that they were able to commit to being part of this team. I also think that our system is an attacking type of play and it rewards attacking player, it awards brave players and I think that Brad and Sacha fit that category. I think that Brad and Sacha know how to play their position in a way that can be dangerous, but most importantly when we play with the high pressing and go after teams, we need our front players to be the ones who are the most aggressive and the most tuned in and cover the most ground."
On Robles:
"In many ways, I think he had a better year than he had last year. We asked him, like a lot of our players, to expand their comfort zones of what they feel and what their comfortability within their role is. We’ve asked Luis to be more of a last defender, we’ve asked him to be more of a leader out of the back, we’ve asked him to have his finger on the pulse of everything that’s happening in the game and to dictate everything from distribution to game management, to game speed. There’s big demands that we put on each of our guys but Luis is one where the more you demand out of him the more he demands out of himself and he’s a pleasure to coach."
