Red Bulls Open Home Slate Against San Jose on March 16, Presented by Speedway
HARRISON, N.J. (December 20, 2018) – The New York Red Bulls will open the tenth season of soccer at Red Bull Arena against the San Jose Earthquakes on March 16, presented by Speedway. Kickoff time and broadcast information will be announced by Major League Soccer at a later date.
The Red Bulls will begin the season with a Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 series against Atletico Pantoja and open the MLS season in Columbus in a rematch of the 2018 Audi MLS Cup Playoff Semifinal series against Crew SC on March 2 at MAPFRE Stadium.
Concacaf announced dates and times for the Round of 16 matchups yesterday. The Red Bulls will face Atletico Pantoja in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, February 20 and host the return leg on Wednesday, February 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
Over 23 seasons, New York is 8-8-7 in season openers and 6-2-1 when opening the season at home. The Red Bulls won last year's home opener 4-0 over the Portland Timbers, with a game-winning goal from 17-year-old Homegrown Ben Mines. In the nine previous home matches to start the season, the Red Bulls have combined for 13 goals while allowing just five, including five shutouts.

The Red Bulls set new MLS records for points (71) and wins (22) in a season in 2018 en route to the club’s third Supporters’ Shield in the last six years. New York reached the semifinals of both the Concacaf Champions League and MLS Cup Playoffs, going 28-11-7 across all competitions, including a 19-2-2 record at Red Bull Arena.
