Red Bulls Add Defender in Exchange for Fourth-Round Draft Pick
HARRISON, N.J. (December 11, 2018) – The New York Red Bulls have acquired defender Amro Tarek from Orlando City SC in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, the club announced today.
Tarek, 26, joins the Red Bulls after spending a year with Orlando and featuring in the starting XI 19 times. The Los Angeles, California, native was loaned to Orlando from Wadi Degla FC, an Egyptian Premier League side, during the 2018 season and subsequently transferred to Orlando. Tarek featured with Wadi Degla during the 2017-18 season, amassing 10 starts and 21 appearances.
“We are pleased to add Amro to our club,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. “He is a versatile defender with experience both in MLS and abroad, and he has qualities that we like. We look forward to Amro joining us for preseason camp and seeing how he fits with our team.”
Tarek made his senior team debut in the Egyptian Premier League at 22 years old for El Gouna FC on January 9, 2014. Overall, he made 83 combined appearances for three different Egyptian Premier League teams (Wadi Degla, El Gouna, Enppi) and accrued 7,033 minutes played.
For the Egyptian National Team, Tarek made his debut on March 28, 2018 against Togo in a 3-0 victory. Most recently, he was called into the national team for their Africa Cup of Nations Qualification matches, earning one start in four matches. He also appeared for the United States at the Under-20 level.
