The New York Red Bulls have broken the MLS record for wins in a season. With their 1-0 victory over Philadelphia Union on Sunday, the Red Bulls notched win No. 21 on the year, breaking the previous record of 20 wins set by Seattle Sounders (2014) and Toronto FC (2017).
Atlanta United FC also set the record on Sunday, notching their 21st victory with a win over the Chicago Fire.
New York has 68 points on the season, a franchise best, and one off the MLS record of 69 points, set by Toronto last season.
The Red Bulls have notched 2.06 points per game, which is currently third in Most Points Per Game. LA Galaxy have the record with 2.13 points per game, set in 1998.
New York and Atlanta will vie for the top spot in MLS and the 2018 Supporters' Shield on Sunday, October 28, as both clubs play in the final match of the regular season. The Red Bulls will need a victory over Orlando City SC and Toronto to top Atlanta to lock up the Shield.
