HARRISON, N.J. (September 22, 2020) – New York Red Bulls II signed goalkeeper Luca Lewis to a USL Championship contract pending league and federation approval, the club announced today.
Lewis, 19, most recently played for Torino Primavera in Italy. The New York native made 14 appearances for the club last season, posting seven shutouts.
“We are very excited to add Luca to the group. He is joining us from a high-level environment, that experience combined with his youth and talent we believe sets him up to succeed with us,” NYRB II Head Coach John Wolyniec said.
Lewis started playing for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida in 2015. He accumulated 35 appearances over two seasons. He played for Torino U-17’s, where he made 13 appearances and posted seven shutouts during the 2018 season.
“He gives us some experience overseas while also being from the local community. We believe his strengths make him very suited to our style of play and we are very excited to have him with us,” Wolyniec said.
