HARRISON, N.J. (March 22, 2017) – New York Red Bulls II has signed 2017 MLS SuperDraft pick Jordan Scarlett to a USL contract, the club announced today.
The New York Red Bulls selected Jordan Scarlett (No. 61, Iona College) in the third round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
“We were excited to get Jordan in the draft,” Head Coach John Wolyniec said. “He has shown to be a guy that has a lot of talent playing for a local team, Iona College, and we’ve gotten to see him a few times. It’s great to get him with the team and hopefully we can get him moving towards an MLS contract for next year.”
Scarlett, a native of Bronx, N.Y., and a graduate of Columbus High School, played four years of college soccer with Iona. The defender played a total of 69 games, including 59 starts, and tallied three goals and five assists in his college career.
As a senior, Scarlett was named to the All-MAAC First Team. As a junior, he was voted onto the All-MAAC Second Team, and prior to the start of this season, he was selected to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team.
Scarlett leaves the Iona program having played 1,750 minutes, the 10th highest ever in program history. He was also named to the All-MAAC Academic Team his sophomore, junior and senior years.
