MIAMI, Fla. (May 30, 2016) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) held the official draw of the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel Monday evening.
The New York Red Bulls were placed in Group F with Alianza Futbol Club [El Salvador] and Antigua Futbol Club [Guatemala]. It is the third appearance for New York in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (2009-10; 2014-15).
Alianza is making its second Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League appearance (2011-12) while Antigua FC is making its first Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League appearance.
By winning the 2015 Supporters’ Shield, the New York Red Bulls were one of the 24 qualified teams set to participate in the tournament. During the draw, each of the clubs were sorted into eight groups of three teams for the Group Stage of the tournament. The Group Stage is set to take place from August to October 2016.
The championship round will begin early 2017.
The 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League will qualify its champions directly to the FIFA Club World Cup 2017.
Club America is the defending champion and will represent the Confederation later this year, in the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2016.
Match dates and times along with ticket information will be announced at a later date.
