New York Red Bulls Support Spinal Cord Injury Research with Wings For Life Match

Wings For Life 2018

April 14 match vs. Montreal Impact to feature Wings for Life ambassador and Paralympic swimmer Mallory Weggemann

HARRISON, N.J. (April 12, 2017) - In support of spinal cord injury research, the New York Red Bulls are honored to host the 4th annual Wings for Life Match on Saturday, April 14 vs. Montreal Impact at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Wings for Life Ambassador and two-time Paralympic swimmer Mallory Weggemann has been at the forefront of raising awareness and funds for spinal cord injury research and will be honored for her efforts in the pre-game festivities.

In 2011, Weggemann won an ESPY Award for “Best Female Athlete with a Disability.” At the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, Weggemann won a Gold Medal while setting a Paralympic record in the 50m freestyle and anchored the Bronze Medal-winning 4x100m medley relay team. Most recently, Weggemann competed at the Rio 2016 Summer Paralympic Games and just returned from reporting for NBC Sports at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympic Games.

The Red Bulls are encouraging fans to visit www.newyorkredbulls.com/wingsforlife when purchasing tickets to this game. A portion of the sale goes directly to the Wings for Life Foundation, a registered 501c3 tax-exempt organization with a mission of finding a cure for spinal cord injury.

As part of the foundation’s efforts, the 5th edition of the Wings for Life World Run is set for May 6, 2018 where runners and wheelchair participants join a simultaneous global race that is truly unique. Instead of a finish line, people take off side by side to keep ahead of a Catcher Car. The United States race will take place in Sunrise, Fla. In addition, an app run feature allows anyone/anywhere to run with the world via the Wings for Life World Run app, available in the App Store.

One hundred percent of entry fees and donations goes directly to the nonprofit Wings for Life Foundation, for life-changing spinal cord research.
