HARRISON, N.J. (April 4, 2018) – The New York Red Bulls U-23 side’s First Round opponent in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has been drawn, U.S. Soccer announced today.

New York Red Bulls U-23s will begin their Open Cup campaign against NPSL side, FC Motown on Wednesday, May 9 at Ranger Stadium on the campus of Drew University (Madison, N.J.). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and will be live-tweeted from the @RedBullsAcademy Twitter handle.

This year's winning team will receive $300,000 (up from $250,000 last year), a berth in the 2019 Concacaf Champions League and have its name engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy, one of the oldest nationally contested trophies in American team sports. The runner-up will earn $100,000 (up from $60,000 last year), while the team that advances the furthest from each lower division will take home a $25,000 cash prize (up from $15,000 last year).

New York secured their qualification by winning the Mid-Atlantic Division in 2017 with a 12-1-1 record and plus 37 goal differential, tops in the Premier Development League (PDL).

New York’s First Team will enter the competition, along with all other MLS clubs, on June 6 in the Fourth Round of the tournament.
