The New York Red Bulls open the 2017 season today against Atlanta United FC at 7:30 p.m. ET (TV: FS1, Fox Deportes, Radio: New York Red Bulls Radio). Here are some numbers to know ahead of kickoff.
1: First meeting between the clubs, and first official match for Atlanta United FC, MLS’ 21st team.
10: The number of scoring plays Bradley Wright-Phillips and Sacha Kljestan combined for last season. Wright-Phillips led the league with 24 goals, capturing his second Golden Boot, while Kljestan became just the second player in league history to reach the 20-assist mark.
14: Sunday will mark the 14th time in 22 years that New York starts the MLS season on the road. New York is 7-9-5 in season openers and 2-7-4 when on the road
17: Atlanta United FC has already retired the #17 jersey for the franchise, to commemorate the year the club begins play in MLS.
140: Luis Robles is expected to start on Sunday, continuing his MLS regular season iron man streak. Robles’ start would be his 141st consecutive regular season appearance. He has not missed an MLS match since his first start of the Red Bulls in September of 2012.
857: Miles between Red Bull Arena and Bobby Dodd Stadium, the site of Sunday’s game. Atlanta United will move into a new home, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, upon its completion this summer.
